Why am I so passionate about Nutrition and Health? It’s a personal thing.
I learned from a young age how important good nutrition was to my health. At the age of 16 I became very ill and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). The disease took its toll on my health. I went through many hospitalizations and treatments before I realized that I needed to something more. At that time I knew very little about the connection between proper nutrition and good health, but what I did come to realize, was that all the medication in the world could not help me unless I improved my nutritional status. The quality of food I was eating, how I was eating it, how much I was eating as well as improving my nutrition supplement program were all very crucial to my recovery.
I spent the next several years learning about my illness and the role of good nutrition in attaining and maintaining good health. Eventually I went on to make nutrition and health education my career and have spent the past 25 + years educating others on how to improve their health condition with proper nutrition.
One of the most important things that I have learned through my experience is that even though we cannot always control what happens to us (such as illness), we can control how we react to it and do everything that we can to make ourselves stronger through some specific healthcare practices.
My advice to all of you who may be dealing with a chronic and/or serious illness is to take action in your life instead of letting disease control you. Be an active participant in the treatment of your health condition, whether it may be in attaining good health or in the practice of disease prevention.
